What a cracking day ending with a nice sunset🌅… even though it was a bit fresh.

These are a few shots I took from Seaford Pier tonight.

As we mentioned the other day, there isn't any significant weather on the cards, but when that changes, we will do an update on the page.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

Fantastic images! I took this at Sandhurst, if I'm allowed to share

Incredible really. The pics out of Sorrento were all beautiful. Well done, great work.

This is spectacular! What camera did you use for this? I’m not sure my phone will do the longer exposure time in time lapse mode… 🤔

I took these photos with my telescope 21st April

Vaughan this is incredible. Awesome job!

Awesome Vaughan. What settings were you using? Looks amazing

Fab idea doing a timelapse! Incredible!

This is amazing and thank you for capturing the moments, can I ask I silly question, your clip says not for media use, does it mean we cannot share on our fb page? This is too good not to share but I just want to check if it's ok first. Thanks 🙂

That really is incredible! I was hoping someone would do a time lapse 💜

Hi Vaughn, can I ask what time you took these lovely photos please?

So glad I drove out of town, this was Torquay but saw faintly from Altona on the way home too

What time was this? So sad we missed it!

It definitely was spectacular and glad we could see it in northern Victoria as well. Definitely worth being cold for.

Nick, it’s pretty but what’s the science behind this in terms of what it means for electrical devices we rely on? Does this event indicate changes in our magnetosphere?

Birchip Victoria on Wirrim Birchip Rd. We don't normally see these up in Birchip as we are to fare from Ocean , But last night was unreal I would loved been closer to Ocean to see it even better

Queenscliff

Could you see it again tonight? Is so what time? I was hoping to see it from the backyard maybe?

Mardan, 11pm last night

Echuca,Victoria

We were going to go to the Rye back beach but decided to go to Koo Wee Rup tower, was very happy with our shorter trip

I'd been taking photos for 3 hours strait & my battery was down to 1 bar so was going to pack up then the sky just exploaded with Aurora at Ouyen so I thought what the heck I thought I'd keep the shutter going, Can't believe I actually got this shot I've been chasing Aurora since last year & out of all my photos this would have to be my favourite.

How long is it around. Can we still see it tonight. I am in Melbourne. Best location and time please.

And Queenscliff again 40mins later.

Tower Hill Lake, Koroit- at the end of my street!

Nick - is it going to happen in Melton tonight?????

More on the way. I been receiving more high alerts this morning for Solar storm

Try as I might, I could net see it!

Dani Allen really hope you Scott and William get to see it. A very rare, Once in a Lifetime experience for the majority of Earthlings

Looks like you got a shooting star too

Wow we didn't get to see it these photos are amazing

It’s ashame our sky’s can’t be like this every night such beautiful

Stunning photos! Unfortunately I missed it last night. Too busy working 😏

Mother Nature at her very best

I missed it, I'm in morwell and went outside but didn't see anything. 😟

A level G4 (severe) geomagnetic storm warning has been issued by the Bureau's Australian Space Weather Forecasting Centre.

🌏 The geomagnetic storm conditions are expected to arrive at Earth tonight at 8.00 pm AEST +/- 10 hours.

☀️ This event is a result of four coronal mass ejections from the Sun observed on Wednesday and Thursday.

G4 geomagnetic conditions can cause bright auroras to be visible at unusually low latitudes, including dark-sky locations near Sydney and Perth.

💫 To view auroras, you ideally need a dark night with little cloud cover and an unobstructed view to the south.

Bright auroras usually last for 1–3 hours and the best viewing time is around midnight—between 10 pm and 2 am. However, there's no magic hour that you're guaranteed to see auroras—keen aurora chasers usually keep an eye on our real-time geomagnetic indices which show the level of geomagnetic activity.

Darn bloody fluffy sky things destroying the fun

Will they be visible in south Gippsland?

Shame it's raining here and meant to all night. 😢

Croydon victoria

Jason Moore.... wanna go hunting?

The Cloud caver will kill it

Sunspot warning, I'm a red head, warnings a bit late....

It's a pity it's raining. I'd live to see this

always rain and cloudy when things like this happen.

It's such a shame it's too cloudy to see anything

Damn shame this cloud cover!

No cloud cover in maffra but still can’t see anything besides stars

Hang on I thought it was tomorrow 🤔

Troy Hetherington you might get a look if you’re lucky

Genevieve O'Reilly get out there

Just beware everyone, even though a CME has occurred it doesn't necessarily mean we'll see an Aurora. It all depends on the direction of the Coronal Mass Ejection that determines the intensity. If the CME occurs on the opposite side of the Sun we'll most likely see nothing. Obviously eruptions facing closer towards the Earth influences what we see.

Nice looking out the window - been dry for too long 💧

Rain on tin roof was a good sound during the night, nice 13mm for the garden and weeds.

We had a miracle 6 mm at south Kyneton. Nothing here since 1st Apr and that was a long wait for once a month rain!

6 mm for south Kyneton pic.

4:50PM THURSDAY - The latest radar scan from Weatherzone shows areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over western districts due to a deepening trough that extends into central Victoria from NSW.
